Maslak/İstanbul ︎ 1994 ︎ Construction Area: 5.500 m2 ︎ site: - m2 ︎ Office ︎ Gökhan Avcıoğlu, Nevzat Sayın, Selda Baltacı, Tülay Atabey

The twin reinforced concrete skeleton built long ago were planned to be completed as a headquarters building adjacent to the road. A road was visible between the two buildings on the zoning plans. In order to create a headquarters structure from the two structures, a connection structure was required, and the road was exactly where this structure should be. A structure revealed itself by the intersection of a long entrance structure on the trace of the road and a second narrow long structure in the opposite direction connecting the entrances of both buildings could be used for functions such as entrance, security, waiting and reception. Based on these decisions, we asked them to purchase the road. This suggestion, which seemed impossible at first, was accepted. Thus, contrary to the initial plan, entering the buildings from the back, which were located considerably below the main road level, properly addressed vehicle traffic and services. The facades lowered to the ground from the outer lines of the projections transformed the masses into smooth prisms. The stair towers, which remained on the entrance facades due to their inverted entrances, were made more prominent and separated from the office section, resulting in two exaggerated and prominent masses. This exaggeration, which is perceived from a distance, diminishes as you approach the building and disappears when you are inside the entrance structure.
The building, which has changed users and institution several times, is today still a headquarter building for another institution. The intermediate structure, which carries pedestrian access from the main road and the main entrance from ‘from behind’ provides more than the sum of the two blocks.
