We are confronted with a building that was built almost twenty years ago, better than all the recent ones in its neighbourhood. Moreover, it is a building designed by Sedat Hakkı Eldem.... What could be the design criteria of a building whose users may or may not be defined and which we know can change? The master, Sedad Hakkı, must have thought about whether a building could be created that would definitively assess the necessary data for its construction and be flexible enough to meet variables that could develop based on user needs. With this in mind, everything was done before us and was standing there. We started the building by cleaning what had been attached to the structure. We discarded everything until the shell and core remained. We came across a space thought for all possibilities. This should have been what is called a ‘smart building’. What we did was a ‘restoration’ in the structural sense. We fixed the malfunctions related to misuse. We placed them as easily transportable elements for the new use, taking into account that what is needed may change again one day. Concerning the new use, anticipating that the requirements might change again one day, we placed easily movable elements. Assuming that Mr. Sedat is seeing and approving, we believe it is now being used exactly as it should be (both from the outside and inside), and is again ready for new uses exactly as it should be...
