“It is quite possible that a historic fabric of thousands of years may be unearthed when the area is excavated for construction. Therefore, the architectural design should not overlook such a serious possibility and foresee possible solutions at the concept design stage. As SEV demonstrates the responsibility it holds for history and its preservation in new constructions, it also aims to set an example for the rest of the country.” This brief was considered one of the most important pillars of the project. This particular condition, which was not an option, but a must, led to the decision to lift the building, set it on pillars, and create an archaeological park underneath that could eventually be developed further. While the elevated building offers a protected archaeological workspace within the future excavation site, it also creates shaded, half-open porticoes in the climate of Tarsus, offering open areas protected against rain and sun. The elevated floor not only accommodates functional details for natural ventilation, but also offers the possibility of introducing ‘zero energy’ solutions for problems of heat and humidity. In light of this information, the natural ventilation of all areas except the cafeteria, the concert hall, the dressing rooms, and the toilets seems possible.
